NANS Intervenes in OAU Management, students’ crisis By Waheed Adekunle, Osogbo



The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has intervened in the crisis between the management and students of Obafemi Awolowo University, ile-ife, just as it assured that the suspended students union leaders would soon be reinstated.

Addressing a press conference at Osun NUJ Correspondents Chapel in Osogbo, the NANS Vice President, Comrade Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga, said the union has reached a compromise with the management of the institution. Comrade Gbenga stated further that the union has been having a fruitful discussion with the management to resolve the matter.

According to him, the intervention is aimed at ensuring the restoration of the students’ union activities on OAU campus and the reinstatement of the suspended students’ union leaders.

He said “NANS uses this medium to assure all Nigerian students and most especially OAU students that the students' leaders and students’ union activities will soon be reinstated going by the various agreements reached.”

NANS also disassociated itself from the activities of another group calling for the probe of the Vice–Chancellor and the Management Team.

The President, OAU students’ Union Government, Comrade Omotayo Akande who was also at the Press Conference commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi for his efforts in resolving the matter.
