My Position will Impact Positively on Nigerians- Lasun Yussuf...Says new era has begun in ECOWAS Parliament

It was a great exciting moment and monumental joyous homecoming reception for the newly elected Vice Chairman, Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Hon. Olasunkanmi Yussuff.

The entire city of Osogbo, Osun State Capital was agog by the enthusiastic crowd who stormed the major streets in the State Commercial city with the hope of rejoicing with their son and political leader who has just clinched another milestone of the exalted position of being the First Deputy Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament.

However, his lovers, loyalists and political associates who had already besieged the major roads leading to Osogbo were seen chanting solidarity songs and stylistically dancing to demonstrate high level of excitement over the historic elevation of their leader.

Sighting his arrival, the ecstatic crowd of the All Progressives Congress, APC's  supporters were seen wielding brooms as a sign of honour to rejoice and display their love and acceptance to Nigeria's House of Representatives Deputy Speaker.

On his arrival, the train of the historic homecoming of Hon. Yussuff moved straight to Ataoja's Palace where the Nation's Speaker and his people received the royal blessings from the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun.

Addressing the people, the newly elected First Deputy Speaker of Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS and Deputy Speaker, Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Sulaiman Olasunkanmi Yussuff vowed to continuously make life more meaningful and abundant to Nigerians and African people.

Hon. Yussuff who described his new position as a reward of his selfless services to humanity, promised to be magnanimous in victory and use his position to turn around the nation's economy by uplifting the general well of Nigerians and Africans.

The ECOWAS Parliament Deputy Speaker, who pledged to bring his wealth of experience in Nigeria’s National Assembly into the ECOWAS Parliament, said his new elevation would add necessary legislative values into the socio-political, economic, religious and cultural dispensation in Nigeria.

Hon. Yussuff who dedicated his victory to God and humanity said the new era has begun in the legislative structures of Nigeria and entire Africa.

The Deputy Speaker who pledged utmost sensitivity to human's plights and challenges pointed out that politics is about service to humanity, saying if one does not have the capacity to serve his people, therefore there is no point in seeking for public offices.

He said by the virtue of his office he has not done anything for his people as much should be expected now that he has been given another mandate to steer the international parliamentary affairs.

He added, "obviously to the measure of my present office, I have not done anything because my work and performance must provide an enabling and conducive environment that would give high sense of belonging to the people of my Constituency, State, Nigeria and Africa.

"Infact God has been so wonderful, marvelous and so supportive to my cause because I never knew I could become the First Deputy Speaker of Economic Community of West African State Parliament, ECOWAS but by His grace, here I am.

"I pray to God to allow me to be used for my people so as to really demonstrate to the entire world that truly politics is about service to humanity.

"Sincerely, I will use my position to  demonstrate high sense of commitment to the people's needs and champion the desired progress, transformation, development and change on which I was voted for.

"My people must feel the impact of my position positively and I will ensure that whatever benefits I can get from the ECOWAS Parliament is taken back to the Nigerian Parliament and impact positively on Nigeria as a country as well as Nigerians people.

"My good work has just begun as I am ready to do wonders in the lives of our people.

Hon. Yussuff who described Nigerian Parliament as one of the best in the whole world said he would translate his repository of knowledge and wisdom to beneficial productivity which according to him would add needed virtues and values to the system.

He therefore reiterated that his choice of going to International Parliament would definitely herald drastic change and as well effect the genuine and positive change that Nigerians voted for.

It would be recalled that the ECOWAS Parliament was on Thursday elected a Senegalese MP, Moustapha Cisse as Speaker of Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, Nigeria while Nigeria’s House of Representatives’ Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sulaiman Olasunkanmi Yussuff was returned as First Deputy Speaker.

Other Deputy Speakers elected are from Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia and Cape Verde in line with the rules of procedures of the parliament.

It was reported that the election was held during the inaugural session of the fourth legislature of the parliament in Abuja.

The four Deputy Speakers are: Hon. Olasunkanmi Yussuff from Nigeria, First Deputy Speaker; Aminata Toungare from Cote d’Ivoire, Second Deputy Speaker.

Others are, Jefferson Kanmoh from Liberia, third Deputy Speaker while Orlando Pereira Dias from Cape Verde emerged as the Fourth Deputy Speaker.

Comprised countries include: Nigeria; Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Cape Verde, Zambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Togo, Mali, Niger, among others.
