Group Petition ICPC on Alleged Missing 125.1 Metric Tons of Alum in Osun

A non-governmental organization in Osun State known as Community Building and Development Initiative, CBDI, has petitioned one Sunshine Oil and Chemical Development Company Limited for allegedly defrauding the state of 2502 bags of Alum valued at #8,757,000.00 at Eko-Ende Water Works.

The pro-masses group who wrote the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC to beam its searchlights into the alleged financial mismanagement and resources displacement being allegedly perpetrated by the Sunshine Oil and Chemical Development Company Limited, said the time has come to stop the anomaly in the system and as well uproot all forms of corruption in all sectors of the economy in the state.

The group alleged that between January 31, 2013 to February 14, 2013, a total of 510 Metric Tons of Alum was delivered by Sunshine Oil and Chemical Development Company LTD at Eko-Ende Water Works and the delivery waybill was duly signed by Mr. Omidina J. Oluranti, a store officer in the Water Works.

According to the petition, the lost of the Alum was discovered in September, 2015, as a result of the State Government's inability to make full payment to the contracting company (Sunshine Oil and Chemical Development Company LTD).

The petition has it that, It was mutually agreed between Osun State Government and the Company that 360 Metric Tons be removed out of the 510 Metric Tons in the Water Works Store.

However, upon the removal of the authorized 360 Tons from the store, it was discovered that instead of the balance of 150 Metric Tons which is supposed to be the balance of the Alum in the store after physical counting and re-bag of the damage one in the store, the total of 24.9 Metric Tons was accounted for.

The group therefore questioned where about of the balance of 125.1 Metric Tons of Alum, saying the misery must be thoroughly investigated and unraveled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC in the interest of the state.

The petition states further, "even though the Osun State Government through the State Water Corporation has established without doubt the loss of the 2502 bags or 125.1 Metric Tons of Alum Valued at N8,757,000.00 at Eko-Ende Water Works.

"From close observation and information at our disposal, we may conclude that State Water Corporation was not interested in the recovery of the missing Alum.

"We believe that some influential officials in the Water Corporation who are supposed to be questioned about the missing Alum were not questioned.

"We may also conclude that the action of the Government in this regard is deliberate as several other reported cases of stolen items in Water Works in the past has been swept under the carpet.

The group through its Director of Programmes therefore prayed the Commission to investigate the matter, recover the missing Alum and prosecute whoever that is culpable so as to serve as deterrent to others in the State Public Service.
