27-Year Old Man Remands in Prison for Stealing Bags of Cement

A 27 year-old man, Olapade Taofeeq has been ordered to be remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing 286 bags of cement in Osogbo.

The accused person was said to have committed the alleged offence sometimes in the month of June, 2015 at Testing Ground Area, Osogbo, Osun State Capital.

Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun had on Wednesday told the court that the accused stole 286 bag of cements valued at N514,800.

Abidun further explained that the stolen properties belong to one Oladepo Adeleke.

The offence according to the prosecutor was contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11 Law of Osun State, 2003.

But the accused pleaded not guilty to one count charge of stealing slammed against him.

Defence Counsel, Mr Okobi Najite applied for the bail of the accused in the most liberal term.

Najite while praying the court to temper justice with mercy said the suspect was still presumed innocent until contrary is proved by a court of law.

He said reliable sureties would stand for the accused, adding that he would jump bail if granted.

Police Prosecutor objected the bail application on the ground that the accused having jumped the administrative bail being given to him in 2015 before he was later apprehended would definitely jump bail if granted.

Handling down her ruling, Magistrate Fatimoh Sodamade ordered the accused to be remanded at custody in Ilesa prison pending the determination of the case in the next adjournment.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 14, 2016.
