ANAMBRA: PARADING ELECTION OBSERVERS LIKE COMMON CRIMINAL IS CONDEMNABLE. CDRP By Ola Maskot

The arrest and subsequent parade on television by the police of officially accreditedobserver an observer group in the Anambra Governorship elections coming up on 16th November 2013 is not only condemnable but the highest form of impunity from Nigeria police.

This is the position of  a leading human Rights group in Nigeria Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) in a release signed by the Acting National Coordinator of the group Comrade Saka Waheed, the group insisted that the 180 observers paraded by the police as if they are common criminals were duly accredited observers of Justice and Equity Organisation Observer Group.
Justice and Equity Organisation was not only duly accredited to observe the November 16thAnambra election, but the organisation also conducted pre election survey and training of the observers in Owerri, why then the harassment and humiliation of the observer group now? The group asked rhetorically.
CDRP further emphasized that the arrest and detention of the observers is a sinister act of the police to prevent the independent observer group to expose the criminal intention to rig the election in favour of a candidate.
According to Saka; the arrest of Justice and Equity Organisation observer group is a clear manifestation of a grossly biased Anambra Police command, indeed the drama of parading 180 observers with  two guns is not only laughable but shows how inept, incompetent and desire of Nigeria police to criminalized genuine activist and pro democratic practitioner to satisfy their paymaster. He therefore call for immediate and unconditional release of observer group, as their continue incarceration will overheat the political space of Anambra.
This arrest and detention of well-meaning Nigerians and pro democracy activist, who have sacrificed their time and comfort to safeguard our democracy and electoral integrity is an electoral aberration and it must be condemned by all, Saka submitted
