One year after the death of his wife, Maryam, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubakar, is set to remarry.
A source at the Force Headquarters, who confirmed this to THISDAY yesterday, said the wedding had been tentatively fixed for September 14.
Maryam died in January, 2012 shortly after Abubakar assumed office first as the acting IG.
When contacted on phone, the Force spokesperson, Mr. Frank Mba, Chief Superintendent of Police, (CSP) confirmed the story, but said the confirmation was not an invitation to the public as the intended marriage was a private affair of the IG.
In his words: “I want to appeal to the media to respect the privacy of the intended couple. And we must all remember that that there is a line between Mohammed Abubakar as a private citizen of Nigeria, and Inspector General of Police.
“We therefore urge the media to, as much as possible, respect his privacy and strike a very good balance between his quest for legitimate public interest and information.”
