A human rights group, Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) has demanded for the true state of health of the Taraba state Governor, Mr. Danbaba Suntai who was said to be receiving treatment abroad.
National Co-coordinator of the group, Comrade Saka Waheed said the absence of Governor Suntai from his state for over 10 months was unconstitutional, stressing that the Governor has contravened the provisions of the 1999 constitution which he swore to uphold.
Addressing a press conference in Osogbo yesterday, CDRP said “the illegality synonymous with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which we experienced during the last days of Late President Umar Yar’Adua is what the people of Taraba state now experience.”
His said: “The trend of events in Taraba State in the past few months have been of tremendous concern to all progressive elements in Taraba in particular and Nigeria as a whole. Since the unfortunate plane crash involving the Governor of the State, Mr Danbaba Suntai the executive administration of the State has been a toy in the hands of a cabal.”
He lamented that the situation in Taraba state contravened the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the interests of the electorates in the state.
According to him, “it is incontrovertible that Governor Suntai Danbaba is not fit to discharge the functions of his office since October 25, 2012 when his plane crashed in Adamawa. While it was very clear that he suffered brain damage in the accident and could not recognize anybody, the cabal in Taraba State and PDP seem hell bent on not allowing the Deputy Governor perform the functions of the Governor and would rather run the government of Taraba aground in a manner reminiscent of the latter days of President Yar’Adua in office.”
He added that Nigerians find it difficult to believe the state of health of Governor Suntai as declared by his wife and other associates, hence the need for the Governor himself to come out with his genuine health status.
He called on all Nigerians to rise against any government by proxy in Taraba state and also called for rejection of government of cabal in the state.
