PRESS STATEMENT

JONAH JANG ABBERATION MUST NOT STAND

The Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) condemned in strongest word, the undemocratic self-declaration of Jonah Jang as the chairman National Governor’s Forum, it is palpably disheartening   that those who work vigorously against democracy have started to thwart democracy from within. It is on record that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State won the election by 19 votes to Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State 16, which was duly announced by Director General of the Forum.

Governor Jonah Jang with so much innocent blood in his hands ,deserve not to be the governor of Plateau State, if not for the collective gang rape of genuine democracy through ballot stuffing and gross electoral irregularities. His antecedent as anti-democracy and anti-people makes him undeserving to lead the forum of Governor in Nigeria.

To add salt to our democratic injury, He declared himself as the Chairman in an election he was democratically defeated, this is a rape of democracy, and we condemned it. It is not only ungodly but also negates all democratic best practices; Democracy should be nurtured on the principle of equity, fairness, truth, justice and accountability.

All genuine progressive minded democrats must not only condemn it, but they must stop celebrating fraud and mediocrity, only truth and Justice can build a nation. CDRP therefore call on Jonah Jang to stop parading himself as chairman of NGF with immediate effect, and embraced his brother governor of Rivers State in building a strong democratic forum of Governors in Nigeria.
